Abdullahi Ganduje is stepping down as APC National Chairman as zoning wars tear through Nigeria’s ruling party. His resignation, though yet to be officially confirmed, is already shaking the power balance within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ganduje’s exit is reportedly the party’s response to months of agitation from the North-Central zone, where key stakeholders have been demanding that the position be returned to their region.

Ganduje Resigns to Calm Zoning Storm

A party insider revealed that Ganduje is under pressure to hand over and step aside before the party’s national convention in December 2025.

Ganduje Resigns as Zoning War Splits APC

“It’s a zoning issue,” the source said. “The North-Central has been loud, and the party is ready to make a move.”

For now, one of the APC’s national vice chairmen is expected to take over in an acting capacity until a permanent chairman is elected.

Ganduje Resigns After Months of Backlash

Ganduje, who served as governor of Kano State, was appointed APC National Chairman in August 2023. He replaced Abdullahi Adamu, who hails from the North-Central zone.

From the start, his appointment drew anger from party members who viewed it as a breach of the party’s zoning principles. That resistance has only grown stronger in recent months.

Some within the party never accepted him. Others simply want the zoning formula to be respected. Either way, the writing is on the wall.

Ganduje Resigns as APC Plans Convention

Though no press statement has been released by Ganduje or the APC, insiders say preparations for a formal handover have already begun.

A source close to the leadership confirmed: “They are working on a smooth exit. The convention is in December 2025, and the party wants no noise.”

If this plan holds, Ganduje’s resignation will be one of the biggest internal shake-ups in the APC since the last election.
