Gianni Infantino is waiting for FIFA’s 211 member associations to grant him until 19 September to endorse his controversial bid to bring in private investment into the organisation – despite the scheme being opposed by UEFA and two other continental governing bodies.

The idea from FIFA’s president, to form a £ 16 billion FIFA subsidiary, with external financiers controlling 20%, whilst FIFA retains commercial and decision-making control over its competitions (including World Cups), was circulated with a deadline looming for members to endorse the proposal.

Gianni Infantino issues ultimatum to FIFA members over $20bn investment bid

A proposal from the former UEFA director with a deadline that the continent’s rivals seem destined to meet would give FIFA a Fifa subsidiary which had access to external financing under this plan and with investment coming from such organisations that has a share in the Fifa subsidiary, should approval be received that organisation of Infantino claim could have access to £32 million each (each member association) per member association in Fast Forward and FIFA Forward grants which will eventually amount to more that £4 billion by 2028.

FIFA claims that the value of its assets and intellectual property within its subsidiaries could unlock up to £8 billion extra in funding, as compared to £2.1 billion if no investment was sought, with FIFA being able to generate funds which are more in the region of three times what its rival associations make from competitions of theirs.
