Tennis megastar Serena Williams is defending her choice to be public about using GLP-1 medication, admitting it was the key tool in her impressive 34-pound transformation before making her professional return.
The 23-time Grand Slam victor made her way back onto the tennis scene last month after she took four years away from the sport. Williams revealed she is taking Zepbound, a weight loss drug, to get back into peak condition, and is now a representative for telehealth company Ro, which distributes GLP-1 medications.
Speaking on Rapid Response, the tennis champ stated that it is ‘no big deal’ for her to have her face associated with the treatment, claiming it aids you more than just in weight loss.
“The more that people understand the GLP-1s, people are going to realize there is a lot more that they do than just help you to lose weight,” Williams explained.

The American stated that it has boosted her overall health, reducing her risk of heart disease and improving diabetic indicators and inflammation. The sports legend revealed she did not even realize that she was at risk of heart disease before she had the tests.
Williams explained that when she first took on the project, she was restricted on what she could say due to how new researching was, with the wider health implications of drugs.
Williams’ link to Ro goes back a couple of years; her husband and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, is an early investor, and she admitted that she was inspired by the company’s mission before becoming an ambassador, and called the GLP-1 treatments ‘a miracle for many people.’
