The Ondo State governorship election is underway, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seems confident, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa already casting his vote at Polling Unit 5, Ugbo Ward, 4 Obenla community in Ilaje Local Government Area. Showing up bright and early at 8:50 am, Aiyedatiwa made sure to get his vote in before launching into the usual political talk of optimism and praise.
The governor praised the election as “peaceful,” commending the turnout as a good sign of democratic engagement. It’s how every politician acts surprised that people actually show up to vote. Aiyedatiwa, brimming with confidence, declared, “With what we have done for the last 10 months, the populace, the voters, like I said, they know who they want.” But does anyone really know who they want, or are they just settling for the least disappointing choice available? the result will tell.
Aiyedatiwa took the opportunity to pat himself on the back, stating, “I believe I’m in an advantaged position to win this election because of the work that I have done in the last 10 months since I assumed office as the governor of the state. We traversed the entire 18 local governments; and visited communities all across.” He assured that things are peaceful in his polling unit and expressed hope it was the same across the state, adding, “In my community, it is peaceful and turnout is very, very encouraging. And I want to believe that the same situation would be at other locations across the state. It’s peaceful here.”
Security was another topic of his post-voting commentary. Aiyedatiwa couldn’t miss the chance to applaud the law enforcement agencies on duty, saying, “I want to commend the security agency, the police, the civil defense, and the military in the background. They are heavily deployed to be able to attend to any security threat and I believe the people comport themselves.”
Finally, he wrapped it up with a self-congratulatory remark on the peaceful nature of the state: “We are peaceful people in Ondo state. Ondo State has been judged to be one of the most safest and peaceful states in Nigeria. Is any state every peaceful in Nigeria again? With insecurity ravaging the country.
