Governor Makinde Mourns As Olubadan of Ibadanland Is Dead

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has confirmed that the Olubadan of Ibadanland is dead, The news was made official on Monday after the monarch passed away at the age of 90.

Governor Makinde received the family of the late king at the government house in Ibadan. The delegation included Bayo Oyero, former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes; Osuolale Olakulehin, the monarch’s younger brother; and his son, Olasumbo Owolabi.

Makinde Assures Support As Olubadan of Ibadanland Is Dead

Speaking during the visit, Governor Makinde promised full support for the royal family. He also said the government would arrange a grand burial for the late monarch.

The governor said, “We don’t want them to leave us, but our time on earth is limited by God. I pray for strength for the family and Ibadan people.”

Makinde recalled that the same day marked the 13th anniversary of his own father’s death.

Tributes Pour In As Olubadan of Ibadanland Is Dead

Earlier, Bayo Oyero formally announced that Olubadan of Ibadanland is dead. He said, “We are here to inform you that His Imperial Majesty, Oba Frederick Owolabi Olakulehin, passed away this morning. We thank you for approving his reign despite earlier challenges.”

Oyero also praised the government for organizing what he described as a historic coronation for the late king.

Oba Olakulehin became Olubadan after succeeding Oba Lekan Balogun. He passed away during his 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary celebrations.

Next Olubadan Likely As Olubadan of Ibadanland Is Dead

Following the news that Olubadan of Ibadanland is dead, the next king will now come from the Otun line. Former Oyo State governor, Rasheed Ladoja, is currently the most senior member on that line.

With the passing of Oba Olakulehin, Ibadan now prepares for another traditional shift in its royal leadership.
