Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has appointed several prominent figures to lead vital sectors in the state government. In a statement on Tuesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, shared the appointments of Musa U. Ikhilor as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Samson Osagie as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole as Commissioner for Health. Pending confirmation from the Edo State House of Assembly, these appointments highlight the administration’s focus on experienced professionals.
Musa U. Ikhilor: Secretary to the State Government (SSG)
Musa U. Ikhilor, a seasoned legal expert, brings over 11 years of experience in legislative drafting and governance. A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Law. Called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009, Ikhilor has served in various roles at the National Assembly, including as a consultant on constitutional review for the House of Representatives.
Ikhilor’s experience also spans advisory positions to the Deputy Speaker of the House and consultancy work in both private and public sectors. He is the Managing Partner of Springfield Legal Consult and actively involved in social initiatives through the Amana Legacy Foundation. Married with children, Ikhilor’s commitment to governance and policy reform is evident in his extensive legal background.
Dr. Samson Osagie: Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
Dr. Samson Osagie, nominated as the State Attorney General, has a distinguished legal career spanning across Nigeria and Africa. Called to the Bar in 1995, Osagie holds a law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and multiple postgraduate degrees, including a doctorate in Political Economy and Development Studies.
Osagie’s career includes two terms as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, where he served as Minority Whip. Currently the vice president of the African Bar Association (West African Region), Osagie has served as a legal adviser and consultant to various corporate and development organizations.
Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole: Commissioner for Health
Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, a medical professional with a robust background in public health and medicine, has been nominated as Commissioner for Health. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) at Ahmadu Bello University and holds a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) from Tulane University, specializing in Environmental Health, Toxicology, and Disaster Management. Furthering his studies, Oshiomhole attended Harvard University for postgraduate training in Clinical Research and Queen Mary University in London for gastroenterology studies.
