Actress Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has opened up about how she maintains her youthful appearance at 41.
Celebrating her recent birthday, the Nollywood star credited her glow to a healthy, balanced lifestyle and her faith in God.
“First, all glory to God. I cannot even take the glory for my looks because life is a gift from God, which I nurture and cherish, knowing that my body is the temple of God,” Bassey told Saturday Beats.
She also highlighted the importance of being mindful of her diet and fitness. “I am particularly careful about what I eat. I am not a sweet tooth, so I am not attracted to chocolates and pastries. I constantly put myself in check, and once I notice any extra weight, I immediately take control measures,” she said, noting that regular exercise is a key part of her routine.

Reflecting on her career in Nollywood, Bassey said she values every stage of her journey, especially the early years filled with uncertainty and perseverance.
She explained that the wait for breakthrough roles shaped her character and outlook on life.
“It sharpened my resolve not to take anything for granted. When I eventually started booking roles, I knew I had to be appreciative and humble because it took a lot of patience and sacrifice—going out every day not knowing if you would secure a role, spending money you didn’t have, carrying disappointment with dignity and living with hope,” she said.
Bassey also spoke about the emotional challenges of the industry, including seeing others land roles she felt suited for. “You encourage yourself, believing that one day it will be your turn. You clap for others and are genuinely happy for them even when it’s not happening for you. You find strength even when you are broken, wipe your silent tears and put on the best smile without anyone knowing the depth of your struggles,” she added.
Her reflections underscore the combination of faith, discipline, and resilience that she believes keeps her youthful both physically and emotionally.
