After the signing of Crystal Palace Captain, Marc Guehi, he has been deemed ineligible for the EFL Cup final against Arsenal, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola urging the English Football League to revisit its registration rules.
Three of City’s goals came from Omar Marmoush, Newgate, who scored twice, with the third goal of the match by Tijjani Reijnders. These stats shed light on the match as Guardiola effectively put the game to rest in the first 30 minutes despite a couple of chances allowed during the second half. After a 2-0 road win, they dominated the home leg 3-1 on Boxing Day, which brought a 5-1 aggregate.

Due to EFL Cup rules, Guehi did not take part in the semi-final, as his registration did not occur until after the semi-final match, and he is said to be absent from the final in March as well. The club will not simply accept the decision, and according to Guardiola, they will go as far as to question why a player, who was newly signed and thus led to a significant investment in the player, should not be allowed to play.
City is now into their 10th League Cup final, a record that matches Chelsea and Manchester United, only surpassed by Liverpool. Their first finals appearance of this decade came after a run of four consecutive titles, which came to an end.
Thanking their impressive achievement, Guardiola expressed its special meaning to a restructured team and saw the final as a great learning opportunity before going up against Arsenal on their best run of form.
