Guilfoyle Faces Senate Probe Over $100K Credit Card Allegation

U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle may soon be the target of a Senate investigation following a bombshell report accusing her of influence peddling.

Guilfoyle is under fire following a Wall Street Journal report alleging that, before she was confirmed as ambassador, she pushed a top donor to President Donald Trump to clear $100,000 in personal credit card debt.

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” that “what we’ve seen in the reports is very troubling; it’s concerning.” He added: “And I’m sure there’s gonna be an investigation.”

The Allegations

The latest claim against Guilfoyle is that she allegedly solicited Trump donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill directly to the credit card company. She allegedly urged him not to leave a paper trail and offered to help him gain access to top administration officials in exchange.

Deters said he never made the payment.

Barrasso said he assumes the State Department would conduct an investigation and that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee “will have oversight and look into that, as well. But I think the public has a right to know what was found, and it is quite a bit of concern.”

The Inspector General Probe

Barrasso’s prediction comes as allegations surrounding Guilfoyle and her time in Athens mount. The State Department’s Office of Inspector General has already opened a probe into Guilfoyle for previous alleged misconduct.

The Daily Mail reported that an investigation was already underway into Guilfoyle’s luxury lifestyle in Greece, including allegations of mistreatment of staff, substance abuse, close ties to an energy and construction company, and the improper acceptance of gifts.

The Reaction

In the wake of the Wall Street Journal report, Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are said to be “extremely pissed off” by Guilfoyle’s alleged conduct and are weighing her removal, The Associated Press reported Sunday, citing a senior U.S. official.

Rubio fired back shortly after the report, saying: “You guys walk around thinking that because some source told you something, and you reported it, it’s the gospel. It’s not the gospel. It’s not the gospel for me. That’s not the way we do things.”

Guilfoyle, who was recently engaged to Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. until the two publicly split in 2024, was confirmed by the Senate last year for the post in Athens.

The Bottom Line

Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle faces a potential Senate investigation over a report alleging she pushed a Trump donor to pay off $100,000 in credit card debt. A top Senate Republican says the reports are “very troubling.” The State Department’s inspector general has already opened a probe into her conduct in Greece. Trump and Rubio are reportedly weighing her removal. Rubio dismissed the reporting as not “the gospel.”

My Opinion

The allegation against Kimberly Guilfoyle is simple: she asked a Trump donor to pay off $100,000 in personal credit card debt, told him not to leave a paper trail, and offered access to top administration officials in return. That is not a favor between friends. That is a transaction. And if it happened, it is a crime.

Guilfoyle has not been charged. The donor says he never paid. But the fact that a sitting ambassador is under investigation by the State Department’s inspector general, facing a potential Senate probe, and reportedly on the verge of being fired by her own administration tells you everything about the seriousness of the allegations.

What is most revealing is the reaction from Marco Rubio. When asked about the report, he did not deny it. He did not defend Guilfoyle. He attacked the media for reporting it. “It’s not the gospel,” he said. That is not a denial. That is a deflection. If the secretary of state had evidence the story was false, he would have said so. Instead, he complained about how the press works.

There are two possibilities here. Either Guilfoyle tried to sell access to the Trump administration for $100,000, or she did not. If she did, she should be fired and prosecuted. If she did not, the administration should say so clearly and release the evidence. Rubio’s angry non-denial does neither. It just tells us he would rather fight the messenger than answer the question.
