News about unknown gunmen unleashing terror in different parts of Nigeria is no more strange again. Just today, some unknown gunmen forcefully entered the National Youth Service Scheme Copers lodge situated at Udo Ekong Ekwere Street, in Uyo Local Government area of Akwa Ibom. It was even reported that they violated some female Corp members. They perpetuated this evil act around Wednesday, they arrived in tricycles and stole valuables like electronic gadgets and money. A certain number of corpers who spoke with some news respondent complained bitterly that there was no assistance from anybody whilst the assault was being perpetuated despite their scream for help

One of the victims said, “They arrived on a tricycle, popularly called Keke, and immediately started operation. They beamed high-intensity torchlight everywhere and pounced on every door with heavy iron and threatened to shoot us if we fail to cooperate”.

A female Corp member who was a victim of this evil act said with tears on her face, said that the gunmen who passed through the back door down to their room took her phone laptop, including her money

“You know at that period of the night, most of us females, we used to sleep naked and the suddenness of the attack caught us unprepared. They beamed the torch through the window and threatened to shoot if the door is not quickly opened,” she explained.

“I have never heard of this anywhere in Nigeria, even in the North, where insecurity is at its peak, that corpers could be deliberately targeted, harassed, and robbed by criminals at gunpoint. Is it because we are not from Akwa Ibom that no one could hear our shouts and come to save us?”, another female colleague, added.

Odiko Macdon, the Police public relations officer said that he hasn’t gotten full details on the occurrence and that he will make sure to investigate the case properly and get back to the media

He said, “I don’t have any information about the incident but I will find out and get across to you”.

We hope that these unknown gunmen are finally caught
