Gunmen have abducted the council chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, Mr Safiyanu Andaha in Nasarawa State.
Accoridng to reports, Safiyanu was kidnapped together with one Alhaji Adamu Custom.
It was also gathered that the victims were abducted by the daredevil bandits on Monday at around 8:30 pm while they were celebrating the New Year Day.
Haruna Kassimu, the Special Adviser to the Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, had been the one to confirm the incident.
According to the Special Adviser, security agencies had responded swiftly, but the gunmen quickly fled with the council chairman to an unknown destination.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the State Police Public Relations Officer, who was contacted had also confirmed the development to journalists on Monday night.
He also said that the police, in partnership with other security agencies, had been on the trail of the abductors to make sure that victims are released in a timely manner.
