Suspected gunmen have launched an attack on Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving one person dead and several others injured, triggering increased security presence in the area.

The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night in Barbaji village, Jajaye Ward, when four armed men arrived on motorcycles around 9:00 p.m., dressed in khaki attire. The attackers were said to have targeted a local vigilante member identified as Alasan Yellow.

According to a source, the victim was shot at close range in front of his shop, causing panic among residents. Another individual who attempted to intervene was also shot during the chaos.

The assailants later moved to a nearby vigilante office, where they fired indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee for safety.

Confirming the attack, the Commander of the Rogo vigilante group, Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, said one person died at the scene while others sustained injuries.

“Four of the victims are currently receiving treatment for varying degrees of injuries. It prompted response by local security personnel who helped to prevent further casualties,” he said.

He added that vigilante members, with support from security operatives, evacuated the injured to nearby medical facilities. One of the victims, said to be in critical condition, was later transferred to a hospital in Gwarzo for further treatment.

Barhaya noted that security has since been reinforced in the area, with joint patrol teams deployed from neighbouring Kiru Local Government Area and parts of Kaduna State.

Residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to track down those behind the attack.
