Mrs. Rose Bassey, a former Accountant General of Cross River under Donald Duke’s administration, and three other unidentified people were kidnapped on Tuesday evening along the Calabar-Ikom Highway’s Uyanga-Ikomita axis.
They were kidnapped by gunmen who lay siege to that axis of the major highway, firing at passing vehicles to persuade them to halt.
Evangelist Edim Edim Omin, a popular priest in the state, was also fired at but escaped with gunshot wounds and was being treated at an unidentified facility.
Checks revealed that the kidnapped former account general was with her driver when she was taken at 5 p.m. on Tuesday on her way back from her farm at Ekpri Iko after Iwuru.
The Uyanga-Ikomita axis of the Calabar-Ikom highway has become notorious for kidnappers in the last eight weeks.
At least 15 persons, including two medical doctors in the state, have been abducted on that axis of the Calabar-Ikom highway
