Chief Enibe Francis, the Chairman of Mgbuka Amazu Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, has allegedly been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
The circumstances relating to his kidnap was reported to have originated to Monday’s sit-at-home in the area.
Reports have claimed that the incident occurred on Monday, September 25, not too long after the chairman had opened the market as ordered by the market associations in the state.
It was said that the armed hoodlums as a consequence, beat him senseless, after which they manhandled him into a waiting vehicle and drove away to an unknown destination.
Recall that during the Workers’ Day celebration in the State sometine in May 2023, Governor Soludo had lamented the wilful absence of civil servants from their duties under the guise of ‘sit-at-home’ orders. He had threatened to cut the salaries of any government workers who did not show up at work at the required day and time.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo had also ordered market leaders in the state to open their markets on Mondays by complying with prayer sessions and tidying of the markets and drainages.
As at the tine of writing this report, the abduction of the Market Chairman has yet to be confirmed by the relevant authorities in the state.
