Yet-to-be-identified gunmen have slain a Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) pastor in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The gunmen had also kidnapped seven worshippers after storming the church on Saturday, July 1.
This incident was confirmed on Sunday, July 2 by the commander of the Ogun State So-Safe corps, Soji Ganzallo in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.
Ganzallo had however, revealed that his officers had liberated the seven church members and killed one of the abductors during a rescue operation.
Ganzallo’s statement had read:
The Special Ops unit of the Owode-Egba Zonal Command Corps under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, had received a distress call revealing that some of the members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area were ambushed during a vigil, leaving seven members of the church abducted and a pastor killed.
Officers of the corps had then swung into action and gone after the suspects, with the goal to rescue the victims unhurt. Their efforts yielded a positive result as the seven victims were delivered unhurt, with one of the kidnappers getting slain and the rest of the suspects sustaining serious injuries in the aftermath of a gunfire exchange.
Meanwhile, a joint team of the police and the So-Safe Corps have commenced a manhunt for the fleeing kidnappers on the run.
Swift action have saved the lives of the seven church members. Going with this development, it is expected that the fleeing criminals will be caught soon enough.
