You’ll think that election violence will end after the elections but it’s not the situation in some places, we are still hearing of cases of violence even after the elections, and politics in Nigeria is not totally without stain as the way it is being practiced scared people from even participating or voting in elections.
Ifeanyi Ozoemena, the People’s Democratic party Candidate for Imo state House of Assembly House in Umuokpharaoha village was attacked by Gunmen who burnt down his house and that of his Father on Tuesday.
According to Ifeanyi Ozoemena, they staged the attack around 2 pm burnt the houses, and waited to make sure the house was razed down. The properties in the house also got destroyed in the attack.
He further beckoned on the Commissioner of police to intervene, and he’s also grateful that the attack consumed no life as his parents were not also around. The cause of the attack is still unknown
The distraught politician said, “My house and that of my father at Umuokparaoha village in Umulolo community in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State were razed on Tuesday.
“They struck around 2 pm, set the houses on fire, and supervised the burning. The two houses and the properties got destroyed in the attack. They operated unchallenged. I am distraught. This is unfortunate.
“I call on the commissioner of police to intervene. I am grateful that no life was lost. My aged parents were not around when they struck.”
On speaking with some witnesses, they confirmed that the gunmen threw explosives into the house.
Such news is no surprise to people especially residents in the Okigwe LGA, as several houses of politicians have been attacked. As some unknown Gunmen also staged an attack on Nnaemeka Obiaraeri’s house in Okigwe LGA in February, Obiaraeri is the labor party Candidate for the state house of Assembly.
Imo the state has been the center of election violence in the East, INEC offices were attacked courts were razed down, and the houses of politicians were also attacked. What the motives are of these persons perpetuating such wickedness is unknown.
