It’s such a stressful world we live in. The hustle and bustle of our daily lives can take its toll if we’re not mindful.
If you’re like most people, you probably tapped the snooze button on your phone a lot of times this morning but it doesn’t have to always be that way for you every morning. This is where a mindful morning routine comes in.
Having a morning routine that you actually stick to is no easy feat. But, imagine a morning routine that decreases your stress levels, improves your mood and productivity. Instead of reaching for your phone immediately you wake up to start scrolling on your favourite social media app (even if its the weekend), try this morning routine guide to enable you have a stress-free day.
Mind you, this list isn’t limited to “non morning persons”. You, my chirpy, happy-go-lucky human who wakes up at the crack of dawn very energised, can still take a cue or two from this list and add to your morning routine, going forward. Another great thing about this list is that you can squeeze in some of this routines into your mornings no matter how little time you have to get ready.
Try to Have a Head Start:
Remember when you were younger and your mom would bring out your clothes the night before school or an important event? That’s a time-saver right there. You have all the time —the rest of the night at least— to decide on what you want to wear the next day. If you want to go the extra mile, try preparing your meals ahead of each day.
Wake Up Early:
This one goes without saying. Most times, our stressful days begin when we wake up on the wrong side of the bed a.k.a wake up late. One of the benefits of waking up on time is that helps align the body with its natural circadian rhythm (the internal clock that regulates the sleep-wake cycle). This means that you get to feel more awake and revitalised throughout the day.
To ensure you get the proper amount of sleep every night, avoid caffeine, alcohol, and screens before bedtime.
Have A Glass of Water:
Beginning your day with a glass of water to help hydrate your body and refill any fluids lost from the prior day. Additionally, early morning water consumption aids in detoxifying, improves metabolism, improves digestion, and skin health, and bars dehydration and headache.
Practice Deep Breathing:
A quick, five-minute breathing routine can do wonders for your central nervous system as it helps the CNS relax and repress any feelings of anxiety you may have that day.
Have a Journal:
Practice gratitude by having a journal you can write down your thoughts and remind yourself of what you’re grateful and appreciative of. Additionally, writing will help improve your creativity for the day.
Make your bed
This activity only takes a few minutes but sometimes, some people neglect this vital routine. Making your bed as you get up from it gives you a sense of accomplishment that motivates you for the rest of the day.
Have a complete, healthy breakfast:
Eating Breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day and eating healthy breakfast is essential to start your day stress-free. Also, eating a healthy breakfast helps to regulate your appetite, prevent cravings and overeating later in the day.
