The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecast a dust haze and sunshine weather from Sunday to Tuesday, nationwide.
NiMet’s Weather Outlook released this information on Saturday in Abuja. They had predicted a dust haze cloud over the northern region of the country, to begin on Sunday and last throughout the predicted period.
According to NiMet, balmy skies with a foggy atmosphere was expected in the North Central region for the forecast period.
In the inland states of the South and the coastal belt, overcast skies with periods of sunlight is expected during the morning hours.
Localised thunderstorms are expected in some parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom in the afternoon/evening time.
The agency envisaged sunny skies with a hazy atmosphere on Monday over the country’s North and North Central regions throughout the forecast period.
Finally, NiMet had released a statement saying:
“Dust particles are now suspended in the air; the general public should note this and take necessary precautions. Individuals with Asthma and other respiratory ailments should exercise caution and strive to be knowledgeable on the present weather situations.”
As expected during this time in Nigeria, the dust haze would affect visibility both for pedestrians and road users. Individuals in the affected states are warned to take extra precautions at this time.
If this dust haze persists, airlines might be forced to cancel their flights owing to low visibility.
