Harry Kane has suggested he may go for an unusual challenge of adding a future MLS career to his tackle box, joining the NFL as a kicker.
Speaking to German TV show Focus TV, the Bayern Munich forward who is currently in talks over extending his contract with the Bundesliga giants, revealed his desire to try his hand at American football as a alternative athletic venture when his legendary football career comes to an end.
Kane, who will be 34 next summer, told reporters he would only contemplate quitting if he was no longer playing at the top level of the game.
“Any time people know I am still on top of my game here with football, it is not a conversation that would be had,” Kane said.
“We’re trying out for the NFL was definitely something I wanted to be able to look at a bit more seriously if my career carries on for five or six years.”
Kane is confident that his past as a kicker will assist him with kicking in the NFL.
“I do take penalties and that is pretty much the same pressure and technique,” he said, though he admitted he would need to spend six months to a year of dedicated practice to give it a go.
The striker also hinted at the possibility of pursuing both career by playing in the MLS because of the varying sporting calendars.
Kane grew up as a big Tom Brady and New England Patriots fan so he’s been dreaming of this moment for years.
