On Tuesday, Hezbollah launched a series of drone and rocket attacks into northern Israel. The group targeted two military sites near Acre and an Israeli military vehicle. Despite these attacks, Hezbollah has warned that its main retaliation for Israel’s recent killing of a top commander is still yet to come.
Tension in the Middle East has been high with fears of a larger conflict growing. Hezbollah has vowed to avenge the killing of its senior commander, Fuad Shukr, while Iran has promised retaliation for the assassination of the head of the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Tehran last week.
Israeli Military Response
The Israeli military reported that several hostile drones were identified crossing from Lebanon in which one was intercepted but still left many civilians injured to the south of the coastal city of Nahariya. Isreali army confirmed that initial alarm sirens sounded around Acre, but later turned out to be a false. The Israeli air force responded by striking two Hezbollah facilities in southern Lebanon.
Earlier on Tuesday, a strike on a home in Mayfadoun, Lebanon, resulted in the deaths of four individuals. Security sources reported that these victims were Hezbollah fighters, although the group has not yet confirmed this.
Ongoing Conflict
Hezbollah and the Israeli military have been engaged in a cycle of attacks over the past 10 months, coinciding with the Gaza war. The recent killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in a strike on Beirut has intensified the conflict, with Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah pledging a “studied” response. Nasrallah is expected to address the situation during a memorial for Shukr.
