The Ekiti State Government has on Wednesday, the 11th of May ordered the reintroduction of History as a subject in primary schools across the state. Prof. Femi Akinwumi, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) made the order in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital as he continued his monitoring of the resumption of schools for the third term of the 2021/2022 academic session.
Akinwumi stated that primary schools had been commanded to marshal out at least one out of the three allocated weekly periods for Social Studies to teach History. He explained that the move was intended to promote the core principles of hard work, patriotism, honesty, and other national values and also to promote the cultures and traditions of the various people that made up Nigeria.
“The reintroduction of the subject in the schools’ curriculum was in line with the national policy on education,” said the Executive Chairman. “Which is also an integral part of the Fayemi’s administration’s strategy to promote core and National values through a well-knitted values orientation program in schools and the larger society.”
