Rasmus Højlund scored an injury-time 96th-minute equaliser as Manchester United salvaged a 1-1 draw at 10-man Bournemouth but still saw their winless run in the Premier League extended to five games.
Bournemouth, who are still in the running for European qualification, began brightly at the Vitality Stadium. Tyler Adams got away with a red card for an early heavy tackle before Antoine Semenyo swept the hosts ahead from Evanilson’s clever flick, his ninth league goal of the campaign. The Cherries had a pretty good grip on the game overall even if Alejandro Garnacho should have been made to pay 10 minutes before the interval for a mistake at the back.
Bournemouth pressed again after the interval, Semenyo and Dango Ouattara both going close, the latter hitting the post from a free-kick at a tight angle. But the game swung when Evanilson was given a straight red card for a wild tackle on Noussair Mazraoui, leaving Bournemouth to play out time with 10 men while clinging to their fragile lead.
Manchester United pushed for an equaliser, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes both close. Deep into nine minutes of stoppage time, Højlund eventually pounced inside the area to make it level.
The 90th minute strike gives United something to take into their Europa League semi-final but some worrying questions over form on the domestic front while Bournemouth are likely find the European dream hard to reignite.
