Unknown Gunmen have attacked and burnt down a Divisional police station in Okwelle, Onuimo Local Government Area in Imo state.

According to sources, the said event happened in the midnight when it was obvious that there was no police officer on duty, introducing hoodlums to take action.

The attack, according to a source living in the area, has disrupted the normal activity of the people as they have not been at ease due to fear and panic.

Recall that recently there was a similar attack in the same state which left two police officers dead at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Isu.

An indigen, name withheld, revealed that the policemen in the division always close at night, leaving the police station empty. It was in this view that the premeditated attack was carried out in the midnight when the station was vulnerable to attacks. He also noted that this police division is one of the most functional stations around their environment, and thus they are now in panic.

Michael Abattam, the spokesperson for the Division, when contacted, confirmed the attack, but noted that there was no casualty.
