The House of Representatives is establishing ad hoc committees, joint Senate/House, to commence their investigation into the petroleum industry on September 25, 2024. This follows the earlier dissolution of the previous ad-hoc committee, which was investigating the operations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
According to Akin Rotimi, Spokesman for the House of Representatives, this new committee is expected to continue probing into issues such as the importation of adulterated petroleum products, the lack of crude oil for domestic refineries, and other critical aspects related to energy security.
In line with this mandate, which is also part of its commitment to drive transformative reforms towards national development, the House aims to address issues concerning oil and gas reform, among others.
Consequently, when it resumes on September 24, 2024, the House leaders will inaugurate the new Public Complaints Commission (PCC) board at their first meeting. Further details about these activities will be announced during plenary on the resumption day.
Additionally, lawmakers have been engaging with their constituencies across the country, addressing citizens’ pressing concerns while also exercising oversight over ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
