Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has reflected on how she overcame the emotional toll of her 2021 sex tape leak, an incident that drew widespread attention after she revealed she was being blackmailed.
Speaking in a YouTube interview with British media personality Zeze Mills, which began trending on Friday, the Afrobeats singer said the scandal, coupled with the death of her father, marked one of the lowest points of her career.
“My dad died and my s3x tape was released. The only way I could have survived was not to think about it,” she said.
The Somebody’s Son hitmaker explained that she coped by refusing to dwell on the controversy and expressed gratitude for still having the opportunity to share her journey.
“Being here on the couch with you is such a blessing. Just the fact that you even want to talk to me, people want to hear what I want to say after how many years. It feels good. I’ve gone through so much, but have I really enjoyed the moment?” she added.
