Veteran actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke has praised YouTube for transforming the Nigerian film industry, giving filmmakers unprecedented control over their projects.
During an appearance on Nollywood On Radio, she noted that before YouTube, many filmmakers struggled to receive royalties because third-party marketers often withheld payments, forcing creators to “manage and try” just to survive.
“Before, it used to be very difficult to get royalties when you produced a movie. Thank God now that you have your own YouTube—you are your own marketer, your own producer, your own executive producer. You do everything on your own. Nobody owes you anything,” Ronke said.
She explained that the platform has made Nollywood more accessible, allowing filmmakers to reach audiences directly and earn a reliable income.
Drawing from her long-standing experience in the industry, Ronke described YouTube as a revolutionary tool whose impact will continue to shape Nollywood for years to come.
