News got out on Thursday, that Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives has been appointed the Chief of Staff of the federal republic of Nigeria by the President. According to the spokesperson for the Speaker of the House of Reps, the president introduced Femi Gbajabiamila as the Chief of Staff in his meeting with the Service Chiefs on Thursday.
This announcement was made official by the President on Friday, after his meeting with the progressive governors forum on Friday.
Reacting to his announcement, Femi Gbajabiamila in a statement, promised to work hand in hand with the president, in discharging his duties, in order to ensure peace and progress in the country.
He further promised to deliver nothing but his best, when he assumes the position on June 14th, as stated in the president’s official letter.
“Having spent the last 20 years in the Nigerian Parliament, and after winning my 6th term election into the National Assembly, I shall work with Mr President in discharging the enormous task ahead of him for the peace and progress of the federal republic of Nigeria.
“I shall give my best when I take office on June 14 2023 as reflected in Mr. President’s official letter,” Gbajabiamila said.
By reason of his appointment, he will have to give up his seat in the House of Rep, as he was elected for his sixth term in the National Assembly. His appointment wasn’t a shocker to Nigerians, as there were already speculations seeing that he’s yet to receive his certificate of return.
Nigerians are patiently waiting for the president to unveil his cabinet, for them to see who the president would be piloting the country’s affairs with.
The Chief of Staff is a high-ranking position, created by the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. He modelled it after the White House Chief of Staff. The position of the chief of staff has become an enviable position, as they play a major role in every administration.
The Chief of Staff serves as an adviser to the president on all matters, manages all appointments and scheduling for the president.
