The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has released emergency toll-free lines for citizens across the country, following reports of probable terror attacks, especially in the Federal Capital Territory.

The United States had last weekend, warned its citizens in Nigeria of a planned terror attack in the nation’s capital city- Abuja.

The United Kingdom and Canada also followed suit and issued similar warnings to their citizens in Nigeria.

Following the recent developments, the IGP, through a statement issued on Thursday, October 27, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP ordered the activation of the emergency numbers across the country 24/7.

Directives had also been given for combatant officers to remain on standby in case of emergencies and distress calls.

Baba had then ordered all Strategic Police Managers in charge of commands and tactical formations in Nigeria to strengthen their security in their respective jurisdictions, especially in the FCT, Abuja.

A part of the statement read:

“Residents within the FCT are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or abnormal occurrence and persons to the police through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.

“The IGP, therefore, reassures the residents in the FCT and admonishes them to go about their lawful businesses and normal social lives/activities as all hands are on deck to nip any security threat in the bud and respond to distress calls immediately.”
