Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga of the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court has directed that Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The order came while the magistrate was ruling on an application filed by the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, who sought to establish the paternity of Liam.
Under the court’s directive, the DNA tests are to be conducted in recognised and accredited medical facilities both within Nigeria and abroad.
Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was named as the sole respondent in the application, which was filed through the legal representation of Wahab Shittu (SAN).
The motion, brought pursuant to Order 8 Rules 1 and 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2012, and Order 9 Rules 8 and 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, requests that the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Pathologist, or any other qualified officer at the Military Hospital, Yaba—where Mohbad’s remains are held—extract tissue, hair, or any other sample from the deceased.
The samples are to be used for DNA testing on Master Liam Aloba at either a government or private medical facility within Lagos State or any other mutually agreed hospital outside the country.
