UN forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s east discovered hundreds of
remains in mass graves.
The finding follows a series of attacks by armed groups in the Ituri region.
Farhan Haq, a UN spokesperson, said the bodies of 42 people, including women and
children, had been discovered in the village of Nyamamba, while seven men had been recovered in the community of Mbogi.
Following allegations of attacks by Codeco militias, the peacekeepers conducted patrols in the region.
Its fighters are primarily drawn from the Lendu farming population, which has
traditionally clashed with Hema herders.
