The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied issuing a new final list of candidates for the 2023 general elections, which will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2023.
Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), stated this in Abuja yesterday.
Okoye stated that a story claiming that the Commission published a final list of
candidates for the elections on its website on Sunday was inaccurate and deceptive.
He stated that there could not be a definitive list of candidates 46 days before the
election, except for names released as replacements for candidates nominated earlier, following a court ruling.
Meanwhile, the Commission warned that if insecurity in the country is not addressed
decisively, it could lead to the cancellation or postponement of constituency elections.
Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of the Electoral Institute (BEI), said this yesterday during a two-day Validation Workshop on Election Security Training Resources in Abuja.
