In response to mounting security concerns, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued new rules for hiking and camping.
Commissioner of Police CP Wale Ajao stated that people and organisations are now required to inform law enforcement before engaging in such activities.
This regulation seeks to reduce the dangers of isolated, unprotected areas, which are frequently subject to security breaches.
He said, “Failing to inform the police before engaging in such outdoor activities
increases vulnerability to criminal threats.”
To get advice on safe routes and required security measures, the police advise organisers to communicate with law enforcement.
The Command claims that giving officers advance notice enables them to offer knowledgeable counsel and, if required, guarantee appropriate participant and protection.
The police emphasised the value of accountability and asked organisers to monitor all attendees in order to avoid unanticipated incidents or missing person cases.
For a prompt reaction in an emergency, effective communication with law enforcement is essential before and throughout these activities.
“Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities and seek security coverage by contacting the FCT Police Command,”he concluded.
