A recent report from Channels TV shows women from the Ipo community blocking the entrance to Port Harcourt Airport.
It was reported that at around 7:30 AM on Tuesday, women from Ipo, one of the airport’s host communities, blocked the airport gate at the roundabout. They were waving placards, singing, wailing, and even cooking at the gate.
Their banners bore inscriptions such as “We Demand Our Citizens’ Rights” and “Ipo Women Peaceful Protest,” among others.
The protesting women aim to draw the government’s attention to their lack of electricity, poor roads, and inadequate schools, despite their community hosting the airport. Their actions caused significant traffic buildup, preventing passengers from accessing the airport.
This marks the second protest by these women this year. They previously protested on March 27 but were pacified by Sergeant Awuse, the former Chairman of the Rivers Traditional Rulers Council.
