The Igbo-proscribed separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra -IPOB, has warned Delta State Governor and vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party -PDP, Ifeanyi Okowa, over alleged killings of Igbo individuals in the state.
The separatist group stated on Wednesday through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful. They had threatened to mobilize against the PDP in the 2023 presidential election.
“The attention of the global movement and noble family of the Indigenous People of Biafra under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu wishes to draw the attention of Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State governor, over the killing of innocent citizens in Delta State by Nigeria’s compromised security agents in the state claiming that they have killed IPOB and ESN,” the group said.
Further repeating that the group was not a terrorist organization as the Nigerian Government was always quick to label them. The statement buttressed the newest pronouncement by the United Nations that it was a peaceful movement, stressing the fact that the group needed its members to be treated as non-criminals as they were.
Emma Powerful had said: “IPOB members are peaceful and not terrorists to be hunted and killed. We boldly want everyone, including the Nigerian terrorist-sponsoring government, to understand that being an IPOB member is not a crime.
“If Ifeanyi Okowa continues to play ostrich while this barbarity and shedding of innocent people’s blood continue, IPOB will ensure that his Vice-Presidential ambition becomes a mirage. IPOB is peaceful in all its operations.”
“Delta State is now a safe haven for these Fulani terrorists who are committing all manner of atrocities unchallenged. The IPOB is watching with keen interest, and we are ready to confront Fulani terrorists in Delta State because Delta State is a part of the Biafran territory.”
