Iran’s foreign ministry has taken the step of summoning the charges d’affaires from Sweden and Denmark in Tehran to register its protest against the burning and damaging of copies of the Koran in these two nations, according to state media reports on Sunday.
Over the past few months, anti-Islam activists in Denmark and Sweden have been responsible for burning or damaging multiple copies of the Muslim holy book, sparking outrage within the Muslim world and calls for the Nordic governments to enact legislation banning such actions.
Both governments in Denmark and Sweden have publicly condemned these burnings and expressed their intent to explore new legislative measures designed to prevent such acts in the future.
The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s human rights department was quoted by state media as asserting, “Iran places the full responsibility for the desecration of the Holy Koran on the Swedish and Danish governments, along with the serious repercussions that may follow.”
