Afrobeats singer and entrepreneur Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has publicly revealed his political aspirations, signaling a potential move into leadership in the near future.
The ‘Skin Tight’ crooner, who recently tied the knot with Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, shared his intentions in a video posted on Snapchat. He explained that he has been contemplating a presidential run in an African country for some time.
“I have been thinking about it. I think it’s time to share it with you guys. Some of you might be from some country, specifically in Africa, and you are looking for a president; a president who is not looking for money and power but forward-thinking, young, active and can move your country better.
“So, I’m officially putting myself forward for the presidency,” he declared.
Although Mr Eazi is Nigerian by birth, he maintains a strong connection with Ghana, where he studied and launched his music career. He has previously credited Ghana for influencing his unique sound, which he refers to as Banku music.
The announcement adds to a growing trend of Nigerian celebrities exploring political roles. In recent years, a number of entertainers have pursued elective and appointive positions, while others have publicly shared their future political ambitions.
For instance, actress Eniola Badmus disclosed in April 2025 her intention to run for a senatorial seat. Similarly, former Senator Ben Bruce once predicted that popular singer Davido could eventually become the Governor of Osun State.
Mr Eazi’s declaration highlights the increasing interest of African celebrities in leveraging their influence beyond the entertainment industry, aiming to drive change through governance.
