The Sultan of Sokoto and the President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has announced Sunday 7th of July, 2024, as the first day of Muharram – the first month in the new Islamic year 1446, After Hijrah.
Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs for the Sultanate Council, Sokoto had signed a statement, explaining that, “the national and the various moon sighting committees across the country had not received any report regarding the sighting of the new moon of Muharram on Friday, 5th July, 2024, which is the 29th of Dhul’Hijja 1445 AH, hence Saturday, 6th of July, is the 30th of Dhul’Hijja”.
The Sultanhad also congratulated Nigerian Muslims on the new year and encouraged them to continue to pray for peace, progress and development of the country.
