Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, emphasized on Sunday that Israel has no intentions of initiating a conflict on its northern border. Gallant expressed the country’s stance, stating that as long as the Lebanese group Hezbollah exercises restraint, Israel is committed to maintaining the current situation along the border.
Amidst concerns of potential escalation due to sporadic cross-border exchanges between Israel and Lebanon in the past week, the sound of sirens reverberated across northern Israel on Sunday afternoon, prompting residents to seek shelter. The Israeli military reported intercepting five out of nine rockets fired from Lebanon and responded with artillery fire directed at the area of launch.
Gallant reassured the public, stating, “We have no interest in a war in the north. We don’t want to escalate the situation.” He also made it clear that any provocative actions by Hezbollah would result in severe consequences, while restraint from their end would be reciprocated by Israel. Acknowledging the recent border exchanges, Gallant underscored the importance of maintaining stability and peace in the region.
