Israel has issued another evacuation warning, this time for residents in Baalbek, a city in eastern Lebanon, signaling potential strikes on Hezbollah targets in Baalbek and nearby Douris. This call, made on Sunday, was accompanied by Israel’s Home Front Command activating sirens along the border at regular intervals to alert civilians.

Targeted Raids on Hezbollah Sites

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that its operations in southern Lebanon continue with “targeted raids” focused on dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure and eliminating Hezbollah fighters. The IDF’s Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, posted on X (formerly Twitter) to warn Baalbek and Douris residents of the imminent strikes, advising them to avoid facilities associated with Hezbollah.

“You are currently located near the facilities and assets associated with Hezbollah, which the Israel Defense Forces will be targeting in the near future,” Adraee’s post read, cautioning civilians to take the warning seriously.

Escalation of Cross-Border Hostilities

This latest development follows a sharp increase in cross-border hostilities, with dozens of projectiles reportedly launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory since Sunday morning. According to the IDF, the Israeli air force intercepted several incoming projectiles, though some managed to land in open areas without causing damage.

Last Thursday, rocket fire from Lebanon struck the town of Metula in northern Israel, tragically resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, including four Thai workers, highlighting the intensity of the conflict’s impact on both local and migrant communities in the region.

Discovery of Weapons Cache in Southern Lebanon

During targeted raids carried out between Saturday night and Sunday morning, IDF forces discovered and seized “numerous weapons” stored in a building in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military stated that these ongoing operations have frequently brought their forces into close combat with Hezbollah fighters in challenging terrain.

“The troops are continuing to encounter terrorists during close-quarters combat in complex terrain and eliminate them using precise munitions, directed by IAF (air force) aircraft and supported by … field intelligence soldiers,” the IDF said in a statement released Sunday, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing engagements.

Rising Casualties Amid Ongoing Conflict

The conflict between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has escalated significantly since September 23, with deadly consequences. According to an AFP tally based on data from the Lebanese health ministry, more than 1,900 people have lost their lives in Lebanon since the conflict reignited, pointing to the conflict’s severe toll on the region.

This escalation reflects the longstanding tensions and hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, with both sides experiencing significant casualties and displacement. As the conflict continues, international calls for de-escalation and civilian protection have intensified.
