Israel’s Chief of the General Staff, Herzi Halevi, stated on Tuesday that the ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza is expected to extend for several months.
In a televised address at the Gaza border, Halevi emphasized the use of diverse methods to sustain achievements over an extended period, highlighting the absence of quick solutions in dismantling a terrorist organization.
“There are no magic solutions, there are no short cuts in dismantling a terrorist organization, only determined and persistent fighting,” remarked Halevi.
He assured reporters that the Israeli military would persist in reaching Hamas’ leadership, whether achieving this goal takes a week or several months.
Israel’s commitment to annihilate Hamas stems from the group’s incursion into Israel on Oct. 7, resulting in 1,200 casualties and 240 hostages. The subsequent air, sea, and ground offensive in Gaza has led to the death of nearly 21,000 Palestinians, as reported by authorities.
Halevi defended the anticipated lengthy duration of the conflict, stating, “We said from its first moments that this would be a long war because it was right to set far-reaching goals, and we will reach far, that’s why the duration will be long.” He added that this extended timeframe would enable the military to adapt its strategies.
Despite acknowledging the ambitious nature of the goal to eliminate all threats surrounding Israel, Halevi expressed confidence in creating a new security situation as a result of the prolonged military efforts.
