Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, banged in two goals on Thursday night as Napoli annihilated home team Sampdoria 4-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, to bring his season’s tally to five strikes in five games and help the Neapolitans retain top spot in the Italian Serie A.
The game was barely 10 minutes gone when Osimhen pounced on a loose ball to open scoring after good footwork by Lorenzo Insigne, while teammate Fabian Ruiz extended the lead on 39 minutes for a comfortable two-nil lead going into the interval.
The Nigerian goal machine was not done yet, and five minutes into the second half he got his second with an assist by Adam Aounas and Napoli’s third of the night before Piotr Zielinski sealed victory with the fourth in the 59th minute.
Osimhen’s brace brings to five his goals in the last three games after scoring twice in the 2-2 draw against Leicester City in the Europa League last Thursday, which he then followed up with another goal in Napoli’s 4-0 win at Udinese.
They are also the fifth and sixth of the season in all competitions for the former Golden Eaglets star after his goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 away win over Cape Verde in a 2022 World Cup qualification race.
Napoli are home next Sunday against Cagliari, and Osimhen will be hoping to add to his season’s tally in front of his home fans.
