The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has confirmed that it will conduct a fresh mop-up exam for candidates who missed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The JAMB mop-up exam after missing 2025 UTME was announced by the Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, on Wednesday in Abuja. He said the decision is meant to ensure that all affected candidates, regardless of why they were absent, get a fair chance.

According to him, “This time, we are creating a new mop-up. Even those who missed the earlier exam due to absence will get another opportunity.” He explained that in a proper system, students who miss exams are usually allowed to retake them, provided the process isn’t abused.

Why JAMB Mop-Up Exam After Missing 2025 UTME Matters

This development is important because the number of those who missed the exam stands at over 5.6%. The announcement of the JAMB mop-up exam after missing 2025 UTME comes as a relief to many families and students who were already anxious about their admission chances. The Registrar also clarified that UTME is simply a placement test, not a test of brilliance. “Its purpose is to rank candidates for limited admission slots, not to test how smart someone is,” Oloyede said.

He also used the occasion to reject accusations of bias or incompetence in the system. “I take responsibility, not because I failed, but because that’s leadership,” he said. “I didn’t even realise people viewed issues around me through ethnic lenses. We must rise above such profiling.”

The new mop-up exam isn’t just for show. It’s a chance for thousands to secure their academic future. “We had limited space. We knew if we wasted more time grieving the challenges, students would lose their opportunity,” the Registrar added.

Oloyede also praised candidates and staff for their endurance throughout the process. Despite technical and logistic setbacks, JAMB has pledged to uphold fairness and transparency. The board says the schedule for the JAMB mop-up exam after missing 2025 UTME will be announced soon.

JAMB Mop-Up Exam After Missing 2025 UTME

The confirmation of the JAMB mop-up exam after missing 2025 UTME shows that the board is willing to take corrective steps. No candidate should be denied the right to education due to factors beyond their control. Whether you missed the exam because of illness, late arrival, or any genuine reason, this mop-up is your second chance. What remains is for JAMB to ensure the process is smooth, equal, and truly fair.
