The House of Representatives has rejected the motion to discourse the frequent migration of Nigerians to other countries in search of greener pastures.
Victor Agbese, a member of the House of Reps had appealed to the House to urge the Federal Government to tag the “Japa” (migration) wave a national emergency and to summon a national summit to deliberate on the situation but this motion had been voted against by the majority of the lawmakers.
This decision is really disappointing considering Nigeria’s unemployment rate.
Reports have it that the new unemployment record currently stands at 33.3 per cent, a very disheartening figure.
It’s no wonder that the mass exodus known as the ‘Japa’ in the country has been in full swing for several years now.
Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States are one the top choices for the youths relocating, with the objective of attaining better education, employment or merely for security purposes.
The 10th House of Representatives was inaugurated on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, only time will tell if this current set of representatives are capable with making decisions that will mostly affect the poor masses in the country.
