Jemima Osunde, a Nollywood actress, has spoken up about her harrowing experience after contracting a life-threatening disease on a movie set in Ibadan, Oyo State.
She revealed that she developed gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) from the food she consumed on a movie set three years ago and has been battling for her life ever since.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition in which stomach acid repeatedly flows back up into the tube connecting the mouth and stomach, called the esophagus.
She disclosed that her condition has deteriorated over the past month.
On her X handle, she wrote, “I’ve never regretted anything the way I regret taking that job and going with them to Ibadan to shoot under their care.. Got h pylori from set food and the aftermath GERD has left me fighting for my life the last 3 years.
“The past month has really been something. *sigh”
In response to Osunde’s post, her colleague Omowunmi Dada recounted a similar experience, revealing how she was left stranded at a hotel after developing sepsis during a filming project in Oyo.
Sepsis is a serious condition in which the body responds improperly to an infection. The infection-fighting processes turn on the body, causing the organs to work poorly.
She stated that after surviving the sickness, the producer contacted her for a refund.
She wrote, “My dear, I got sepsis on a project in Oyo, they literally left me in the hotel. Thank God my family and management got a car to take me to a hospital in Ibadan. I got there unconscious. It was sepsis and I was lucky to be alive. Funny thing, production asked for a full refund. Hmm.”
Replying her, Osunde said, “OMG! Sepsis? Thank God for your life sis. Thank God! Sameee! I got myself to Lagos and to the hospital. Paid for my treatment myself. They were sending me messages about a refund. By the time my team sent a response with all the clauses they had breached in the contract, they went quiet. Talking about a refund when you haven’t even asked if I’ve recovered.”
