Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been voted LaLiga’s Player of the Season after playing a crucial role in guiding the club to their 36th league title. The 20-year-old Englishman triumphed over teammates Vinicius Jr, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, Girona’s Artem Dovbyk, and Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski in votes cast by fans, club captains, and a panel of experts.
Bellingham had an outstanding season, scoring 19 goals and providing six assists in 28 league games. His overall tally for the season stood at 23 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, underscoring his pivotal influence on Real Madrid’s success.
Despite his recognition, Bellingham was unable to attend Tuesday’s award ceremony in Sardinia as he was preparing for the Champions League final against his former club, Borussia Dortmund, at Wembley. In a heartfelt message, he expressed his gratitude for the honor.
“I would like to dedicate it to my teammates, the coaching staff, and, most importantly, to the fans of the best club in the world,” Bellingham said. “It’s a pleasure every time I play for this team. Hala Madrid!”
Bellingham’s remarkable season follows his previous accolade as the 2022-23 Bundesliga Player of the Season while playing for Borussia Dortmund. His impressive performances led to his high-profile transfer to Real Madrid for a fee of approximately 103 million Euros ($111.71 million).
Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, praised Bellingham’s talents and character earlier on Tuesday. “I know how strong Jude is and I know his personality very well. He’s an amazing player, an amazing character, and of course, he will do everything to win that final,” Kehl said.
Bellingham’s award and his contributions to Real Madrid’s title win solidify his status as one of football’s brightest young stars. His influence on the pitch and dedication to the sport continue to earn him admiration and accolades across Europe.
