The Kaduna State House of Assembly has initiated a probe into the financial dealings of former governor Nasir el-Rufai’s administration, spanning eight years from 2015 to 2023. The investigation will focus on loans, financial transactions, contractual liabilities, and other related matters.

In a formal communication sent to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, the Assembly Clerk, Sakinatu Hassan, outlined the scope of the probe and set a deadline for public submissions. Individuals and organizations with relevant information are encouraged to submit memoranda and documents by Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Kaduna Assembly Launches Probe into El-Rufai’s Administration

This investigation marks a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of el-Rufai’s tenure. The Assembly’s decision to delve into the financial records raises questions about potential irregularities and mismanagement during his time in office.

Key areas under investigation include:

  1. Loans: The committee will examine all loans obtained by the el-Rufai administration, including details like approval processes, accounts used for depositing and withdrawing funds, and project finance management records.
  2. Executive Decisions: The investigation will scrutinize the minutes and resolutions of relevant State Executive Council meetings regarding loans and other financial matters.
  3. Contractual Payments: The committee will review records of payments made to contractors from 2015 to 2023, along with any outstanding liabilities.
  4. Salary Reports: The investigation will analyze salary reports from 2016 to 2022, potentially looking for discrepancies or irregularities.
  5. Kadris Reports: Dloyd reports on the state-owned Kaduna State Investment and Property Development Company (Kadris) from 2015 to 2023 will be examined, providing insights into the company’s financial performance during el-Rufai’s tenure.
  6. Loan Terms and Conditions: The committee will investigate the specific terms, purpose, and conditions attached to loans acquired by the administration.

This probe presents an opportunity for transparency and accountability in the governance of Kaduna State. The public is encouraged to contribute relevant information by the deadline to ensure a thorough and comprehensive investigation.

The outcome of this inquiry has the potential to shed light on the financial conduct of the el-Rufai administration and pave the way for corrective action, if necessary.
