Leaders of the Kauru local government Community Development Associations (CDAs) forum in Kaduna State have expressed their deep concern over the mounting frequency of attacks and kidnappings by armed bandits in the area.
The community has been lamenting to all who cared to listen that it is living in constant fear, with attacks occurring almost on a daily basis.
The CDAs, had in a statement issued by their Public Relations Officer, Daniel D. Achi, described the activities of the armed bandits as “unbearable.”
Due to this, several residents have been forced to flee their homes, leaving behind unharvested crops and abandoning their livelihoods due to the pervasive insecurity.
Fadan Ruruma Attack: 17 Kidnapped in Latest Bandit Raid
The newest attack occurred on Thursday night in Fadan Ruruma, Kwassam Ward, where 17 people were abducted by armed bandits. This incident highlights the urgent nature of the violence and the desperate need for government intervention.
The Akansa and Rumaya Killings Persist
Last week, a young man was killed and another injured in Akansa, Rumaya, while several others were abducted and still remain in captivity. These attacks reflect the relentless nature of the banditry and the devastating impact on the community.
As at the time of filing this report, the Kauru CDAs are appealing to the Kaduna State government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the security crisis. They are particularly calling for the establishment of a military strike force in the Kauru and Kumana areas to complement the existing force in Damakasuwa, Chawai chiefdom.
CDAs Address the Threat from Neighboring Plateau State
The CDAs also stressed the need for the government to devise strategies to stop cross-border attacks, particularly from communities in the Basa Local Government Area of Plateau State. They emphasize the importance of cooperation between states to effectively combat banditry.
While expressing their concerns and demanding action, the CDAs also offered prayers for the safe return of those who have been abducted. The community remains hopeful that their loved ones will be released from captivity and that peace will be restored to the area.
