The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old male in connection with an alleged armed robbery and subsequent homicide.
SP Abdullahi Haruna, the public relations officer for the police command, confirmed the suspect’s detention in a statement issued on Tuesday. Haruna reported that the arrest took place on Monday in the Danbare Quarters of Kano metropolis.
On the morning of May 5, 2025, at approximately 6:40 a.m., police received a distress call from a resident of Danbare Quarters, informing them that two suspected armed robbers had attacked Shehu Muhammad, a 30-year-old male, at his home. The suspects allegedly used a sharp cutlass to inflict severe injuries on the victim.
Following the alert, Kano State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, swiftly dispatched law enforcement teams and detectives to the scene. The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was later declared dead by medical personnel.
Haruna confirmed that the suspect, identified as Aliyu Umar, was apprehended at the scene, and the weapon used in the attack was seized. The suspect is currently cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing investigation.
“Upon completion of the investigation, the suspect will face formal charges in court,” Haruna stated.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s dedication to maintaining law and order while ensuring justice is served. He also urged residents to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
