The Kano State Government has broadcast its plans to reconstruct the iconic design of the demolished roundabout situated close to the government house in a yet-to-be-disclosed location.
According to the state government, it will be relocating the structure to a more established location at the Naibawa Flyover on the outskirts of Kano City.
Abba Yusuf, the Kano State Governor had during a meeting Kaltime Hana, the designer of the Golden Jubilee edifice, expressed the government’s commitment to developing infrastructures in the state, promising that the new site for the construction would not pose any problem.
Meanwhile, Hana has expressed her gratitude to Governor Yusuf for helping preserving her unique work of art.
Hana’s structure, mirroring a traditional gate with a trumpet on the top, had been deemed unsuitable at its previous location and was demolished by Governor Yusuf.
Reports have stated that the decision to move the roundabout design had come after careful consideration of its aesthetic and cultural significance had been made.
Was demolishing the roundabout then necessary since it held a valuable cultural significance to the state?
One cannot easily read the mind of Governor Yusuf but it is glaringly obvious that this new plan is a means of wasting precious resources that could have been used towards other important means.
Several millions of Naira (previously used to erect the monument in the first place) will have to be channelled into reconstructing the demolished edifice.
