The Kebbi State Police Command has eliminated four suspected kidnappers, detained one, and safely freed a 60-year-old man in Suru Local Government Area.
The police also recovered ₦3 million that had already been paid as ransom.
A statement issued to the media on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed that the incident occurred on February 14, 2025, when armed men stormed Gobiraje village in Suru LG and abducted 60-year-old Umaru Bawa.
The statement said, “Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Suru swiftly mobilised police operatives and local vigilantes, tracking the suspects to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari axis.
“A gun battle ensued between security forces and the kidnappers, leading to the death of four kidnappers and the arrest of one suspect with serious injuries.
“Other suspects escape with gunshot wounds into the forest, while we rescued the kidnapped victim unharmed and recovered sum of N3m in ransom money.”
The statement also highlighted that Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, praised the officers for their courage, professionalism, and swift response.
